There are foods that reduce the levels of cholesterol
Cholesterol has become one of the most feared villains for our health, but we have some good news for you: this lipid is essential for our organism. Below, the good and the bad aspects of this controversial element.
Such as everything in life, the key appears to lie in the balance, which in this case is the relation between LDL, the "bad cholesterol" and HDL, the "good cholesterol". This is confirmed by Alfonso Valenzuela, a PhD in Science and an INTA academic, who maintains that despite the fact that it is an essential element, the poor reputation cholesterol has is due to the current unhealthy lifestyle that encourages the consumption of fat that leads to an imbalance where LDL, or "bad cholesterol" dominates.
This type of cholesterol is the one that sticks to the walls of the arteries and tissues, generating a series of pathologies such as gallbladder deceases, arteriosclerosis, heart problems and even some types of cancer.
But the imbalance of cholesterol in the organism -according to the specialist- may also result from other conditions such as genetic disorders, as some people present levels higher than normal because they have familial hypercholesterolemia.
